Guitar Chair
to I have been a guitar player for as long as I can remember and was playing one day several years ago and happened to take notice of how I was seated at the time. I was seated on the edge of a couch with no back support at all and I said to myself, "Why don't you create a chair that you can comfortably sit in so that you might play your guitar more comfortably."
The first one I built was actually a one armed chair and supported the arm I key the frets with. The other side of the chair was armless allowing the body of the guitar to rest comfortably on my leg without the obstruction of an arm on that side of the chair. I also made the chair slightly higher, less laid back, and took some of the curve out of the headrest so that I didn't have to tilt my head back so far to make contact with it. The arm height on the still remaining arm wasn't quite right so I ended cutting that arm off. The result was what I call my guitar chair. The existing iteration is not so much what a classical guitar player who is very concerned about posture would gravitate towards, but rather someone like me who likes to casually play with friends and be comfortable while doing so. It provides great lumbar support, yet allows you to kick back for longer periods than you'd be able to perched on the edge of the couch. Because it's armless the price on these chairs (out of American hardwoods) is a much lower $4,300. It's also possible to add a small adjustable arm on either or both sides if you like.
