New ProjectsThe clients for this project wanted a "gaming" table that would seat 6 people. Besides being used to play games at, the clients also wanted to build jig-saw puzzles and asked me to create two specialty trays that could fit under the table. One tray would store loose puzzle pieces and the other would be used to assemble the finished puzzle on. Given the space constraints of the table dimensions I ending up making these trays such that one would "nest" on top of the other when the trays were not in use and put away underneath the table top. The wood used was 9 sequential slabs of Claro Walnut from CA.
The finish decided on by the client was a matte finish, sprayed, catalyzed varnish applied to just barely fill the grain; leaving the table very natural looking yet resistant to the type of wear and tear and spills from drinks one would expect at a game table. I also recently made a music stand for a client. Since it was so complicated and unique I decided to make two additional ones at the same time to benefit from all the tool setups that had to be done making the first one. I have these two available for sale. Even though sculpted rocking chairs continue to be my specialty and are what I am known for I do enjoy periodically taking on specialty commissions and creating something very new and different. If you have a special project you've been thinking about give me a call and we can discuss it. If I don't have the time or expertise to do what you want I may be able to refer you to someone who can. The three photos on bottom of this gallery are live edge counters and harvest tables that I created for my wife's cheese store, Artisan Cheese. The last photos are of some live edge tables that I created out of a big slab of Big Leaf Maple. The large table is 33" tall and the two smaller tables are end tables 20" tall. |
